For those of you that may not know about Lisa-Jo’s Five Minute Fridays Here’s the scoop.

Today’s word is Exhale.

I saw today’s word and knew I HAD to make time for 5 minutes today.  You see in a few hours many people will congregate to our home for our annual tradition of food (this year a whole smoked hog, smoked chicken and hot dogs).  They will bring side dishes, fireworks and themselves, some with a presentation for our annual show, others excited to be in the audience.  We’ve had everything from the anthems of the 5 military branches played on the keyboard, to reports given on some well known, and some not so well known founding fathers.  We’ve had dancing, American History quizzes, etc.  And we end with the reading of the Declaration of Independence, and stand in honor as Shane reads the names of the men that sacrificed EVERYTHING they had so we could live in a free country.

In other words, this is BETTER than Christmas, y’all.

This year our party really started last night.  Our friends came from St. Louis this weekend.  6 of them, Dad and Mom left the kiddos with us, and are staying down the road at a nearby bed and breakfast.  Plus one, Hannah’s friend came home with Shane yesterday afternoon, so we’re embarking on this journey with 5 extra people in the house.

The children and I worked HARD all day yesterday getting things ready for this barrage of people we LOVE to serve every 4th of July.  This will be year 11!

But our friends didn’t arrive until after 9pm.  The girls partied until late.  Hannah is working today from 9-5 or 6 at a nearby fireworks stand

the bathroom didn’t get to rest all night.

Most of you would say that isn’t a problem.

Well for us, it is because

our bathroom door is a little off

and EVERY time it opens and closes

it makes noise.

Needless to say, I got little sleep.

So I’m embarking on a journey today

A journey of clinging to Christ

and a journey of breathing deep

and exhaling when I’m feeling overwhelmed.

Happy Independence Day y’all!
