We’re HERE!!! FMF

When I first heard the prompt I was thinking Seussical the musical…We are Here! We are here  Then we travelled.  Well, we tried to travel.  Melinda and i to the FMF retreat.  After a short 2 1/2 hour detour, thanks to a flat tire that was not only flat, but shredded, well into shreds, we ARRIVED!

No, Seussical, no longer applies.  But “We ARE HERE!” WE ARE HERE” definitely applies.

What should have been an uneventful 9 hour drive, became a 12 hour +  but not a drive.  But a detour.  A time to  laugh or cry…we laughed.  We took pictures, we had Fun.  Yes, on the side of the interstate…

And then we arrived!  Winding, curving through the sweet Tennessee roads, to the house!  Greeted by the precious FMF ladies.  Already in full swing of 2 truths and a lie.  And sweet fellowship….

God watched over us.  Put us near Metropolis.  A tire shop next to the Chinese buffet.  A welcome site to weary travelers.

5 minutes is almost up and l would rather spend real-time with precious FMF ladies…

I’ll see you here next week!

Tell FMF Retreat

I love to tell the story…what story? The story of Jesus. The story of old, unseen things above.

I also love to tell the story of my 4 precious blessings. The awesome God stories the stories of their homecoming to our family.

I love to tell the stories of my children’s childhood. Chasing pigs and cows and chickens in the country. Of hiding in the big, tall pine tree when they we’re little. The pine tree that succumbed to the pine tree plague and died, and burned in our woodstove.

The story of Isaac jumping from another pine tree with a plastic Wal-Mart sack thinking that it’d work like a parachute. Of Hannah dancing in the yard singing let’s go fly a kite on a windy March day many years ago. Of Tabitha’s joy! Of Malachi’s sweet tender spirit after so much anger released from forgiveness.

I love to tell the story of how Shane and I met. of our courtship and marriage and how he didn’t really kiss me until we were husband and wife, even though I had lived another life.

I Try

This is my 2nd FMF post today, once I got the first one posted, this one hit me like a ton of bricks.

I TRY to post soft, sweet stories that draw a reader in to my world. Into my head.  Swirling sweet words into stories that my readers want to hear, but I get sidetracked on the topic of the day.  One the wrongs that appear right, or the rights that are wronged.

I seem to just spill words out on the screen without thought to how they might sound.

I so long to draw readers into my world, the way I see so many other writers do.

But I just can’t seem to get that sweet honeycomb to spill out over the edges of my words.

Strange because I’m a very emotional person.  My highs are high and my lows are low, I’m told I’m bright, bubbly, vibrant, but yet on the page my words are plain and without description.

And it pains me because I LOVE to write, I love to sit down and put pen to paper has always been the way my mind thinks,  even back to elementary school days.  I wrote poetry, Nothing profound, just words spilling out of my head.  Sometimes I still do.

Maybe it’s an escape,

My home is chaotic, but it’s a peaceful chaos where we love in spite of those days that we’re unlovable.  Forgive when we’ve wronged, we offer encouraging words when trying days come and we LIVE.

These words, fashioned by my friend at Fruitful Vine Creations hang over our sofa as a reminder of what we try to be to each other in our family…

He Doesn’t Have to Try

Once upon a time in a land far away, people were actually responsible for how they lived, instead of others being responsible for how they live.

children were free to ride bikes, sans helmets, and no one got angry when they ended up in the ER.

People were smart enough to figure out that a cup of coffee is SUPPOSED to be hot, and if you do something stupid with it, you WILL get burned.

There were only restraining orders if there was a reason to have them, today, you tell the powers that be, “I FEEL” threatened and BAM!  A restraining order is issued, whether or not you REALLY are threatened or not.

We could buy the light bulbs and toilets for our home that we WANTED, instead of what is mandated by those in authority.

It seems like the farther we get away from God’s law the closer we get to legislating morality.

Does that concern anyone else?

When we legislate morality, we become legalistic.

A list of does and don’t’s  (and I don’t want to even THINK about where that might lead)

Yes, we need laws, we need some rules, but when we start legislating things that were not meant to be legislated, trouble will follow.

Yet everyone cries FREEDOM!  We want FREEDOM!  But there is no freedom…

we can’t even have any negative thoughts in our own minds about anything or anyone…

the confederate flag offends,

RebelFlagyet the planned parenthood flag flies free

planned parenthood flagphoto credit liveactionnews.org

sad, yes, really sad…no not the flag (although yes, the flag too)

the freedom these people are looking for, is right there for the taking.

Jesus Christ offers so much more than these wanderers could even imagine in their wildest dreams finding

and yet they continue to search…

they continue to place restrictions on others in the name of freedom for themselves.

a bakery refuses service because of conviction and they’re labeled as bigots and they’re forced to close shop.

but those that screamed bigot, want tolerance for their “convictions”.

we’re all supposed to be happy and rejoice because those with same-sex attraction can now “marry”

How can I sit still and watch while people, sad, sad people are seeking the answer.  Yet they reject THE answer, sometimes in hostility and HATE. Yes, the same ones that cry tolerance, cry HATE when they’re told there’s another way.

Because they want to live their own life.

How can

Yes, truth be told, I DO understand!  God blinds the eyes of some and enables others to see clearly.  Why?  That I don’t understand, and I don’t even try.  Here’s what I do KNOW, God is BIG and I am small…I trust Him because He doesn’t have to try, he KNOWS!

Ten in 5

I’m a proverbs 31 Online Bible Study volunteer.  I’ve been leading a small group of 20 women through Suzie Eller’s, The Mended Heart during the last several weeks.  It’s been an excellent study, but has been quite heavy too, so today, I decided we needed some FUN!  I’m posting encouraging posts and ice breaker questions today.  I thought it might be fun to do for Five Minute Friday, so I picked out 10 questions to answer:

1. What was the best compliment you received?  That Shane and I (God) have raised our children well.

2.  Where did you live between the ages of 9 and 12? 6425 Trousdale Rd, Knoxville TN  588-9367  well, I THINK, lol.

3.  When did God become real to you? I was sitting in front of a draft beer at Applebee’s 25 years ago.  Couldn’t resist the call.  That beer sat on the table the entire night.  No beer EVER sat on a table in front of me before that evening.

4.  What kind of car do you drive? Or WISH you drove? My dream car is a 1960’s era Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite

I want to decorate it will big eyelashes on the headlights and paint the lips bright red.

5. If you could go anywhere in the world on vacation, where would you go? A CRUISE, but  I am looking forward to Hawaii in the future

6.  What is your favorite flower?  hands down, daffodil

7.   All-time favorite movie? wow!  This one’s hard too. Oldies?  White Christmas, anytime, anywhere.  But I love Richard Gere movies, and Julia Roberts, Runaway Bride is a fun one.

TIME, but I’m not done 🙂

8. Do you prefer to dance alone or with someone else?  I LOVE to dance with my kiddos.  And although the older 3 are too old, I have a feeling Tabitha will ALWAYS dance with me

9.   When you were a kid, what did you want to grow up to be?  A wife and mom.  Got my dream job

10.  What is your favorite song?  Right now, I cannot get enough of Mercy Me’s newest

Freedom isn’t Free

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying.  Usually this refers to our military and the freedoms we have in this country because of the lives that were lost in battle.

But that’s not where I’m going today.

Freedom isn’t Free

There is a price

Jesus paid the price for the one who believes in Him.  His blood was the ransom.  His life was the price.

Some would say that living as we feel, doing what we feel like doing, being what we feel like being is being free. That we can live as we please, but that’s not free.  That’s bondage to self, to the man’s desires, not to God’s desires.

God desires that we be holy.  That we glorify god and enjoy Him forever.

This means that as we live to please God, we will be FREE!

He gives us the ways we can glorify him in His word, here are some of them:

We are to avoid evil.

We are to avoid immorality and sexual sin.

We are to avoid anger and rage.

We are to tell the truth.

We are to pursue righteousness

The entirety of the law is this:

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart

and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

’The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Oftentimes, God’s definition of freedom looks different than our definition.

We want easy.

We tell people, “What ever makes you happy.”  We think something will make us happy, but we get to the other side and find that we are just as miserable there, or maybe more so, than we were.  The grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence.  In fact most often it’s the same old dry grass, just a different location.

Loving our neighbor as ourselves isn’t always easy.  Sometimes it’s tough.  Sometimes loving someone means telling them something they don’t want to hear. It means telling them that they can’t continue living a sinful lifestyle and claim Christ.

Freedom isn’t Free.

Christ, who deserved none of the consequences of our sin, took our sin to the Cross.  In our place.

So where does true freedom come from?

It comes from glorifying God.  When we glorify the Lord, we will desire to avoid sin.  We will desire to live holy and righteous lives.  This doesn’t mean we WON’T sin, this means that it will be our DESIRE.

When we live to glorify the Lord and to avoid sin, we are truly free

If the Son sets you free, then you will be FREE INDEED!  (John 8:36)

Where is Hope?

This has been a hard week.  I’ve been burdened deep down in my soul.  There is much pain and suffering in the world.  Things that shouldn’t happen to children, do happen.  Innocence is no more.  Secrets and pain are pushed way down in the soul.  Masks are worn and happy faces and fake joy take the place of the pain.  Marriages fail from infidelity, or alcohol, or just because one or another decides they don’t want to be there anymore.  Children, young adults, older adults and the elderly attempt to take away the pain by popping pills or other means of stopping their breath; some succeed.

I’m weary today with the burden of others.  I’m working my way through The Mended Heart by Suzie Eller with Proverbs 31 Online Bible Study.  And I’m leading a small group of 20 ladies through it. This weeks chapters were about sexual sins, adultery, molestation and the like.  How devastating!    I’m reading the blog and it is heartbreaking. Stories of pain and brokenness have been shared.  And I know it’s only a glimpse of those with deep soul wrenching suffering beneath their masks.

And stories of HOPE!  Like Melissa’s.

There is HOPE!  God SEES!  God HEARS the pain! God HEALS!!  God is VICTORIOUS!!!  For the believer, we are assured that our pain is for a purpose.  Nothing happens by chance.  Everything is for our good (Yes, even that) and His glory.  He uses the circumstances of our lives to mold us into who HE wants us to be, so others can see the beauty he can make from the ashes.

He takes the dead and brings it to life!

He takes the dross away and brings the gold forth!

He makes beautiful out of a lump of clay!

He IS HOPE!  He REDEEMS!  And makes something beautiful from it!
